Mindfulness is a method of staying present, reducing stress and refreshing yourself. Less commonly known is that mindfulness can have many benefits for your performance at work. That is why today, we will be looking at ways you can improve productivity with mindfulness in the workplace.
We can achieve mindfulness in a number of ways. Meditation, deep breathing, listening to calming sounds or music and even simply allowing your mind to rest are all excellent ways to reach a state of mindfulness. You can even find many free apps that can help you get started.
And now, here are four tips that you can try to use mindfulness more effectively to improve your focus and stay productive at work.
Begin with meditation
Meditation is a great way to start your workday. Even just getting to work can be stressful, and once you are sitting in your workspace, the workload and stress can quickly pile on. You might be in a rush to get started, but that is the opposite of what you should be doing. Taking 10 minutes or so to calm your mind and meditate before starting your work can give you some much-needed peace of mind. That will make the work ahead less intimidating and help you stay focused and productive for the rest of the day.
Distraction-free environments
To stay productive throughout the day, you need to be able to stay focused on your work. When you have a lot of distractions around you, it can be easy to lose that focus. One of the ways to avoid distractions is to remove the reason for the distraction simply. Phone notifications and social media are two of the biggest distractions in the modern world. Turning off notifications and logging yourself out of your social media profiles can be a great way to avoid becoming distracted. You can give yourself a chance to check all of these once you complete a task, but be sure to turn them off before getting started on the next assignment.
Focus on single tasks
Another thing you can do is to focus on completing your work, task by task. Stick to a single task, complete it and then move on to the next. It would help if you made efforts to avoid working on multiple tasks at one time. When you attempt to multi-task, you cannot fully concentrate on any one task, which can break your focus. That can lead to wasting energy and a higher possibility of slipping up. It is better to prioritise your tasks and go through them in order.
Take breaks
Taking breaks is an integral part of being able to maintain high productivity. When you take a short break between completing one task and starting the next one, you give your mind time to refresh. A short break will allow you to refocus your mind and reduce the mental exhaustion that can build up if you constantly work without pause. You might think there is not enough time or your workload is too heavy to pause, but it does not have to be a long break. Just give yourself 10 minutes to clear your mind, and you will find that it makes it easier to focus. Your next task will be less intimidating, and you will be able to get your work done more efficiently.
These tips should help you improve your productivity and become more mindful. Give them a try and see the difference they can make for yourself. To find more suggestions on improving productivity at your workplace, check out some of our other blogs and articles.
